Morocco Weather by Region

The northern part of Morocco and the Rif Mountains region due its approximation to Mediterranean have a Mediterranean climate. Northwestern Morocco edged by Atlantic Ocean gets heavy rainfall in winter and very moderate weather in summer season.

The Atlantic coast region receives rain in winter, moderate weather in the summer, but farther south the climate becomes drier.

In the high Atlas Mountains regions, the weather and climate fluctuate depending on elevation level with Jbel Tubkal being the highest peak in Morocco. Winter snowfall can be heavy and the highest areas are snow-covered until the end of spring beginning of summer.

Marrakesh and southern part of Morocco experience hot summers but the humidity is low while the winters are mild and sunny. In the desert area (Zagora, Erfoud,M’hamid), the climate of the southern region of Morocco is very hot and dry.
